HTC Corporation was founded in Taiwan, and now its headquarters are located in Xindian District, New Taipei City. Its founder was Chia-Ming Chen, a former executive at Compaq and Acer. He was one of the pioneers who started computer companies in Taiwan. He started his own company, Hongda Technologies Corporation, which later became HTC. The company designed its first personal digital assistant, the Taoist (also known as Taoist or Celestial). It is considered a revolutionary product in the history of personal computing. The Taoist is a large, monochrome, handheld, touchscreen device.

In the 1980s, Chia-Ming Chen was looking for ways to make computers easier to use. He noticed that most computers at that time were very difficult to use. That is why he decided to design a handheld personal computer. He worked with his friend, a designer named James Chen. They came up with the concept of having a computer that was both portable and easy to use. In 1992, they started developing a computer called the Taoist. They named the computer after a legendary Chinese philosopher and a famous Taoist priest. The Taoist would be one of the first touchscreen computers to market. It was introduced to the public in 1993. The name of the computer, Taoist, means “sky and earth. Check it out here

In the early 1990s, Chia-Ming Chen saw a demand for an innovative PDA device. There was no company making PDA devices. After Chen created his own company, he used his own money to invest in technology and development. HTC had its first product, the Taoist. The Taoist was a small device that could run Microsoft Windows, and it was designed for mobile professionals. It was the first PDA device that had a color screen and could run programs. The Taoist was released to the public in 1992. The Taoist was available in various colors, including silver, black, blue, and green.

In 1996, Chia-Ming Chen wanted to make the personal computer market competitive with the popular desktop PCs. In order to do this, he needed to invent a new operating system for handheld computers. He decided to call it the Taoist. This name came from a Chinese saying. It means “the path to the divine” or “the path to heaven”. He believed that the Taoist would change the lives of ordinary people. Chen had a vision of a new type of computer that would become popular among normal people, not just high-tech professionals.
